Over the years I've had a few readers whose interior heaters became weak or failed completely. A reader has now found out how to fix this and that is what this article is about.

This thread is dedicated to discussing the article. The complete article can be found here: Repairing the smart ED3 PTC heater

  • Hi Moritz,

    I'm french, with a SMART ED 451 2014 105000km. Without heating... :( :S

I saw this post and i would like to try to repair my smart.

I need details for disconnect 12V and Red plug. In your post you say :

"This is reinserted at the very end until it makes *click*. But only when the 12 V battery has been reconnected."

"insert the Service Disconnect and then install the 12 V battery."

    I don't understand, wich order?

    1. To deconnect, first 12v then HT

    2. To reconnect, first HT then 12V

    Right? :/

If you can help me. Thank's you very much.

    Fabien

I saw different post on forums who make the repair... but no one successful... ;( but i want to try before by a new heater....

  • I'm sorry, that's been a translation error in the article and I've fixed it now. Thanks for telling me about it.

First disconnect the 12 V battery, then disconnect the HV system. When you are done, connect the HV system and then reconnect the 12 V battery.

MY thumbs are pressed. At least in the German part of the forum it worked for multiple people already. I've also got a used heater available in my shop. :)
