New OTA Update - smartOS 1.4.0

  • As far as we know, the big summer update will bring a completely overhauled navigation system. Other than that, nothing is really confirmed.

Changed the title of the thread from “New OTA Update” to “New OTA Update - smartOS 1.4.0”.
  • No, Maritz, I had the chance to speak on the phone with someone at the top of Smart. In the next update, there will be the possibility of having even softer regenerative braking, some improvements on CarPlay and Android Auto, the ability to modify the avatar, and the option to remove the popup window for the 360 cameras.

  • Just had a phone call... yes, the update is getting closer and closer. But I can't comment on what will come. Only that I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be a great update. :saint:

  • Right, as a techno geek, I'm looking forward to this "great" Update. We've heard a lot of rumours so there's a lot to live up to.

But I've had my #1 now nearly a year. Updates are good but are they addressing the biggest issue remaining with Smart, the product reliability as a whole? Remote access has been and still is an issue, among the niggly SW issues many of us got to ignore since hope for improvement has died away (the USB management, awful radio jnterface, sign recognition not usable, ...). The Hello Smart app is appalling as a product and its reliability is no better. The phases of non working are an issue we all experienced (during my recent vacation it was not working for a full 10 days of heavy car usage) .

Of course, there are the alternative apps but even with those one is not shielded from the lacking reliability. Cynically, as the SMore developer myself, I'm encountering this right now with my car being deleted from my SmartID. The Smart Support is its typical self in simply ignoring the issue; was it a human mistake, a SW error or an outside hack manipulating customer data? All good questions to investigate but foremost the customer access should be restored ASAP but to no avail . So the last four Updates to my own app, I've not been able to use myself!

Such unreliability can hit any Smart user at any time and I do not see Smart adequately addressing that. To me, it's becoming the main issue over improved features to play with. At the end of the day, I want a reliable product; I paid for that but ain't getting it. Any update on that?

  • Hello everyone,

I had been assured by people inside Smart that by the end of the month, an update with many fixes and some new features would arrive. Does anyone have any news?

    Hi,

Well, interesting, however, did they tell you which month there are talking about, obviously not June ;)

    Best,

    P

  • We're getting close. Here's what my dealer told me today:

  • Finally some news about this update. I have to admit that now that we know the update changelog, in some aspects it’s disappointing, but in others it’s good and needed. About the energy recuperation I think it would be better to add an auto mode, like in many other electric vehicles were the front camera that reads the traffic can regulate the energy recovery mode. The avatar change is silly, but someone may like the ability to change it. The V2L function is a very useful feature and the fact that they have implemented it is a really good thing. The possibility to unlock the charging cable is a thing that I am surprised it wasn’t there before (the other day I charged the car for the first time and I didn’t know how to unlock the cable 😆😆). I also hope that it isn’t the whole changelog of the update and hope that some other cool functions arrive with the update soon

  • We'll have to see how that cable unlock plays out, but if I now have to lean into the car instead of just needing to unlock it, I'll not be happy.

I'm also very interested in "General optimizations in the areas of charging" -- will the OBC finally react to the EVSE's signals at least in steps of 1A, instead of crazy jumps like it currently does? Will it even accept steps of 0.1A? Will it wake up without the EVSE dropping the CP signal completely?

Me neither. I‘ve had a phone call with my contacts at smart Europe. We agreed on the fact, that it‘s not the best practise, if it‘s like that. There was customer feedback which asked for it. But those cases had buggy wallboxes and therfor asked for it.

We agreed that it should be a option to have this „feature“ and that it should be turned off as standard.

  • Shouldn't there be something new in the update regarding navigation and charge planning e.g. charging provider? At the moment, it's more of a joke and completely unusable

  • Yes, the overhaul of the navigation system was intended to be in this update. Last week I've had a call with the German smart CEO, who was very disappointed that they haven't got it ready in time for this update. :(

Never the less, the new navigation system, including a proper navigation with public charging stations, will come in the next big update after that.

  • On French forum it was said that seat ventilation would be enabled too

Can’t wait to have them for summer if it’s true!!!!

It won't. The hardware is missing in every European smart #1. Only the BRABUS #3 has got it.
