My smart electric drive is now 10 years old

My little smart electric drive is already 10 years old. It was ordered by my parents out of curiosity in 2012 and then received it in 2013. At a time when there were not even 10,000 electric cars on German roads.
At the beginning of 2016 it became the first car of my own and the reason for my enthusiasm for the smart brand.

In this article I dedicate myself to the 275,000 km old smart ED and tell what happened during this time.

It is common knowledge that all modern electric cars can charge with Type 2 or Type 1. This is a standardized plug that works across manufacturers.

But what exactly is it that makes it so special? How does it work and why did Mennekes take the trouble to develop it instead of simply charging all cars with a household socket? The Deutsche Accumotive GmbH & Co. KG has set a major milestone with the E18-1. With the first made in Germany battery cells that where used in a series production vehicle, they build a battery pack, that's truly developed and made in Germany. For 2012, it's performance date is impressive:
